What is happening at MBSC is transformational, the L&D program is under way, participation in the program has exceeded expectations, kids aged 7-10 are joining the Starter Squad in numbers. By Christmas new sailors will be thinking about their first boat. The BIC fleet is proving very popular, the Muddy offers a tried and tested single handed alternative, Flying Ants are a very special two handed option for later on. ISAF Youth World Champion Carrie Smith’s and crew Jaime Ryan’s performance at the 2015 World Championships marked an impressive return to world class competition after extended medical issues had forced them off the race track for the majority of the time since the 2014 ISAF Worlds. Just making the top-ten medal race was already a huge success for the pair. And finishing it off with an overall ninth and qualifying Australia for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games (subject to ISAF ratification) was a fantastic surprise and much deserved reward for a stellar performance for these up-and-coming sailors. WA youth sailors are dominating the Australian youth sailing scene. Having adopted best practice, MBSC is now a leader in youth sailing development. Young sailors respond well in a learning organisation, an emphasis on learning rather than winning, on the enjoyment of the game and how it is played. WA sailors are in a good place.
Fresh from winning the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race with Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, 25-year old Luke Parkinson is joining Artemis Racing's America's Cup team. Parkinson was one of two under-30’s onboard Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, who earlier this week arrived at the Swedish finish line in Gothenburg to secure the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race win.
