What is happening at MBSC is transformational, the L&D program is under way, participation in the program has exceeded expectations, kids aged 7-10 are joining the Starter Squad in numbers. By Christmas new sailors will be thinking about their first boat. The BIC fleet is proving very popular, the Muddy offers a tried and tested single handed alternative, Flying Ants are a very special two handed option for later on. WA youth sailors are dominating the Australian youth sailing scene. Having adopted best practice, MBSC is now a leader in youth sailing development. Young sailors respond well in a learning organisation, an emphasis on learning rather than winning, on the enjoyment of the game and how it is played. WA sailors are in a good place.
Fresh from winning the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race with Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, 25-year old Luke Parkinson is joining Artemis Racing's America's Cup team. Parkinson was one of two under-30’s onboard Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, who earlier this week arrived at the Swedish finish line in Gothenburg to secure the 2014-2015 Volvo Ocean Race win. Two sailing courses are planned for the next school holidays running from Tuesday to Friday, 9 – 12 & 16 – 19 July. The courses, designed to give children aged eight and over the opportunity to experience the many skills that can be learned through sailing, will be run by experienced Yachting Australia accredited coaches sharing their love of the sport. Experienced Yachting Australia coaches will run a children's sailing course at Mounts Bay Sailing Club in the school holiday. It will run from Tuesday, April 23 to Friday April 26, and is designed to give children aged eight and over the opportunity to experience the many skills that can be learned through sailing. These include organisational skills, self-confidence, interaction with others and basic skills for further sailing.
